About us

A small company for small businesses

We build Crate Harbor for the businesses that keep towns running — the practices, studios, workshops and offices that can't afford to lose a day of work.

Our story

It started with a flooded office

In 2021, a burst pipe ruined the server cupboard at a small architecture practice run by a friend of ours. Their only backup was an external drive sitting on the same shelf. Years of drawings were gone in an afternoon.

Maya and Arjun had spent their careers building storage systems for large companies, and it was obvious that the tools small businesses had to choose from were either built for enterprises with IT teams or built for individuals with holiday photos.

Crate Harbor is our answer: dependable, encrypted backup and sync that a busy office manager can set up in an afternoon and then forget about — until the day they need to get something back.

We are independent, profitable and intentionally small. We grow by looking after the customers we have.

What we believe

Our principles

Your data is yours

We don’t sell it, mine it or hold it hostage. Exporting everything is always one click away.

Support is part of the product

Every question is answered by someone on our team who understands how Crate Harbor works.

Boring is a feature

We favour proven, well-understood technology over the latest trend. Backups should be predictable.

Fair, simple pricing

Per-user pricing with no hidden fees, no surprise overage charges and discounts for non-profits.
